Abdalla el-Badri, the secretary-general of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), has stated that the decline in global crude oil prices may not abate until 2017, as the oil market is expected to rebalance within two years. The   secretary-general expressed concern about the impact of low oil prices on investment and the consequences for future supply when he spoke on the issue on Tuesday, October 6, in London. However, the official insisted that rebalancing the world oil markets was the responsibility of all producers and not a burden to be borne by OPEC alone. He said:  “We have an overhang of 200 million barrels in the market. All of us should work together, OPEC and non-OPEC…all of us have to work together to see how we can get rid of this 200 million barrel overhang.  You will see the result. This means less supply and higher prices in the future.” Badri noted that overall global investment in oil could drop by $130billion this...

The world will supposedly come to an end today, a Christian group has predicted.

Image
Share on Facebook Share on Twitter The group has told humanity to prepare itself being  “obliterated”  by fire as soon as the clock strikes midnight. The eBible fellowship, an online group for bible study, has published a series of lectures on  Why October 7, 2015 is the Likely End of the World. Chris McCann, who leads the Philadelphia-based group told the Guardian: “According to what the Bible is presenting it does appear that 7 October will be the day that God has spoken of: in which, the world will pass away.” McCann said that, according to his interpretation of the Bible, the world will be obliterated “with fire”, as God promised not to cause another flood on the scale as that which afflicted Noah. Although his theories rely on a lot of dodgy maths, McCann’s main message is that according to the Bible, the beginning of the process was on 21 May 2011, when God stopped the process of selecting which churchgoers will survive Wednesday’s carnage. Mixed fortunes blur idea of Africa’s collective ‘rising’

Image
JOHANNESBURG  – Falling commodity prices, political upheaval and simmering conflict are exposing the differing fortunes of Africa’s economies, undermining the idea that the continent of a billion people is on one collective ascent. Sub-Saharan Africa has achieved annual growth of more than 5 percent over the last decade, and foreign investment has more than quadrupled over the same period, feeding the popular catch phrase that Africa is ‘rising’. However, the regional cooperation, infrastructure development and political reforms needed to diversify economies and even out growth are taking longer than expected, speakers at a Reuters Investment Summit said this week. “‘Africa Rising’ served a purpose because it alerted people who weren’t interested in Africa before to the opportunities,” said Simon Freemantle, senior economist at Johannesburg-based Standard Bank, Africa’s largest bank by assets. “It is useful to move away from that now and give each country individual attent...
