Aisha Buhari Backs Enforcement Of Rape Laws

The wife of Nigerian president, Aisha Buhari has called for the enforcement of rape laws at all levels to protect women and children in the country.
The president’s wife stated this on Monday, September 14, at a meeting when she received some staff of the Ministry of Women Affairs, UNICEF and National Population Commission, led by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr Ezekiel Oyemomi at the state house in Abuja.
She said: “We are aware of the national law on rape passed this year on May 25(Prohibition Act 2015) which states imprisonment ranging from 12 to 20 years. I advocate for the enforcement of this law at all levels. Unfortunately, children are the most vulnerable, being exploited at different stages of their lives.”
Aisha Buhari added that it had become crucial for international organisations and the government to pursue policies and laws to protect women and children against rape.
She noted that the issue of the violence against children was dear to her heart and would do every thing possible to save the disadvantage situation of children in the country.
