Useni tackles Miyetti Allah on cattle rustling
Senator Jeremiah Useni
Senator Jeremiah Useni, who is representing Plateau-South senatorial district, yesterday cautioned Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) against linking him and the Ponzhi Tarok, Gen. Domkat Bali to cattle rustling.
MACBAN President for North Central, Alhaji Danladi Chiroma had earlier this month accused Sen. Useni and the Ponzhi Tarok, Gen. Domkat Bali of looking the other way while their tribesmen rustle cattle belonging to Fulani herdsmen.
Tarok youths had allegedly crossed over to Ibbi Local Government Area of Taraba State and rustled about 456 cattle. It was gathered that in the process, they killed one herdsman. The cattle, according to Operation Safe Haven were moved in Langtang South Local Government Area.
However, a statement issued by Sen. Useni’s head of media, Abubakar Ateeku Yusuf, said the claim by MACBAN chairman was intended to implicate and smear the good name of the senator and Ponzhi Tarok.
The statement added, “we see the MACBAN chairman’s statement as an attempt to give false and fallacious information aimed at damaging the hard earned reputation of the duo. It was a misrepresentation of facts aimed at creating hatred, distrust and suspicion among the peace loving people of the zone.
“It is indeed unfortunate for anybody or group of persons to embark on stealing of peoples’ property, igniting violence and above all killing innocent persons and Senator JT Useni has always condemned such,” he said.
The statement stressed that both Gen. Domkat Bali and Senator Useni were in Europe for medical check up at the time the 456 cattle were rustled.
“Senator Useni is always desirous of peaceful co-existence and will never support any form of violence or criminal act,” he added.
