Lagos lists exemptions in vehicle restriction order
The Lagos State government has exempted some heavy duty vehicles from the 6.00am-9.00pm restriction order on road movement in the state.
Vehicles exempted include tour/passenger buses, fire service trucks, rescue and recovery trucks, patrol trucks, perishable farm produce trucks, refuse collection trucks, cement mixer trucks, tractors and refrigerated trucks.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Oluseyi Whenu, made the clarification in a statement at the weekend, saying it became necessary following the controversy generated by enforcement of the law.
The statement said while Section 2 of the Traffic Law restricts movement of trailers and long vehicles, only petrol tankers and long vehicles used in conveying passengers would be allowed to move in the metropolis within the stipulated period. Vehicles with more than one real axle or six tyres are also restricted from the roads during the day, the statement added.
Whenu said the government remained committed to the protection of lives and property of residents irrespective of social, cultural or economic classification. He called for compliance and understanding among residents.
