Pilgrims Escape Death As Plane Develops Fault

A plane belonging to Max Air conveying 545 Muslims from Kebbi to Saudi Arabia for Hajj developed technical problem after three attempts to take off, according to Hajj authorities. 
Daily Trust reports that the incident happened at Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi around 1.39am on Wednesday, September 16.
Aliyu Sani Zamfarawa, one of the pilgrims said the passengers were thrown into a state of confusion when the plane developed fault.
He said: “One of the engine of the plane developed fault after three attempt to take off from the airport. All the pilgrims in the airplane were in a state of shock and confusion as we all ran for safety as soon as the emergency exit was opened.”
Sani Dododo who is the chairman committee on flight of Kebbi State Hajj Task Force said the pilot explained that one of the engines developed fault and consultation was going on to find solution to the problem.
He said: “The pilot also advised that another flight be brought to lift the intending pilgrims and the effected flight will be taken to Kano for repair.”
Alh. Abubakar  Muazu Dakingar, the chief press secretary to the governor of Kebbi state, Atiku Bagudu said the governor had ordered that a new plane be deployed to take the pilgrims within the deadline period.
“The Governor has also ordered the immediate arrest of officials who shortchanged or refused to hand Basic Travel Allowance (BTA) to pilgrims.”
It was reported that the plane was conveying top government officials from the state to perform the Islamic rite.
In another incident, some Nigerian pilgrims were not so lucky as they got injured after a crane fell onto the grand mosque in Mecca.
