Aviation agency supports anti-graft drive

 The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has pledged commitment towards promoting transparency, accountability, fiscal discipline and anti-corruption in its operations.The agency said this was in line with the anti-graft posture of the Federal Government.
The Managing Director of the Agency, Engineer Ibrahim Abdulsalam, stated this while receiving a delegation of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) at the agency's headquarters in Lagos.
"NAMA would work in close collaboration with ICPC in re-orienting staff on the ills of corruption and financial crimes to ensure that the virtues and values transparency permeate the system," Abdulsalam said.
Abdulsalam noted that the agency recently sponsored a total of 16 staff to three-day anti-corruption training for aviation sector workers, which took place at the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN), Keffi, Nasarawa State.
The Zonal Commissioner of ICPC and leader of the delegation, Shintema Binga, said their visit was to sensitize aviation agencies on the Corruption Risk Assessment for the sector to be embarked upon by the commission.This is in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2014 with the Ministry of Aviation.
Binga pointed out that the commission intended to do a system study of the aviation sector, particularly Abuja and Lagos airports, as major gateways in order find out areas that could be prone to corruption and devise ways of addressing them. - CAJ News

N12 billion unremitted funds from FIRS, Customs stocked in Nigerian Banks – RMAFC

The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has demanded the immediate return of over N12 billion unremitted funds from some commercial banks holding collected government revenue. The banks were engaged by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to collect revenue and remittances on their behalf. The demand followed the verification and reconciliation of revenue collections and remittances by the collecting banks carried out by the commission. According to a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, RMAFC, Mr Ibrahim Mohammed, the directive was given by the Chairman, Non-Oil Committee of the Commission, Mr Ajibola Fagboyegun.
