Jonathan Was Not President For All Nigeria - Sylva

Timipre Sylva, ex-governor of Bayelsa state and one of the aspirants seeking the governorship ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has defined immediate past president Goodluck Jonathan  as a sectional leader who was more of a president for Bayelsa state than for the nation, Nigeria.
Speaking shortly after screening exercise preparatory for the APC governorship primaries, he said:
“I am not worried. I always say that the former president was the president of Bayelsa State and he has proven me right. He has always been the president of Bayelsa State; He was never the President of Nigeria.”
At the event, Jonathan and his wife Patience openly expressed support for the candidature of Dickson, saying he earns a second term.
The acceptance of Dickson by Jonathan came at a time the PDP leaders were planning to hold a reliable party primary to choose the candidate of the party for the election among the about four people who attained the nomination form for the race for the party ticket.
Sylva speaking with journalists at the APC National secretariat said the open bias shown by the ex- president for a specific aspirant even in his party when all other candidates still respect him as a father figure is a pointer to the fact that the ex-president has never been a nationalist.
A total of 19 aspirants obtained forms and attended the screening exercise ahead the primary election.
Sylva maintained that the declarations of support for the governor by the former president and his wife can never be a threat to his ambition of returning to Bayelsa government house.
On his chances, Sylva said: “I feel that I have a good standing with the people. As you can see, if you look behind me, you will see the array of Bayelsans who are here with me. Who else is left in Bayelsa? So, I think that because of the people who are with me, I feel I stand a very good chance.”
Reacting to a question on a consensus candidate, the APC chieftain added: “There are some discussions going on. When it is time to make it public, you will hear.”
